OUR POSITION
Good intentions are not enough. For decades, policies have been designed to close the gap — and the gap remains.
Not because people don't care. But because institutions can reproduce inequality while appearing to address it. We call this benevolent disadvantage. And we're here to name it, challenge it, and replace it with something better.
REAL STORY
Three weeks before the end, Jaden's school decided it was done with him.
Maidstone, Kent
Jaden had made it. Five years of secondary school. Three weeks from the finish line. GCSEs underway. Prom on the horizon.
Then they expelled him.
He is autistic. He has ADHD. Nobody at his school identified either until Year 11 — the same year they decided they were done with him.
The school had focus groups for troubled kids. Specialised tutoring. Initiatives. It was, by its own account, trying to help.
Jaden missed his prom.
This is what a system looks like when it offers just enough support to mark a child as different — and just enough procedure to justify what comes next.
